Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has taken the first major step to achieve food security, which forms part of his 5-Point campaign agenda for Edo State.

Yesterday, November 17, 202t, the governor took the first step when he launched some farming equipment designed to help farmers in the state with land preparation.

The official commissioning ceremony was performed by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who led a delegation of federal lawmakers, including Senator Adams Oshiomhole, leader of House of Representatives, Prof Julius Ihonvbere, Senator Neda Imasuen and others on a working visit to Edo State.

Items commissioned were 30 tractors, five bulldozers, 150 farming implements and a lowbed truck to transport the equipmemt.

Okpebholo described the acquisition as a cornerstone of his administration’s agricultural transformation agenda, designed to open thousands of hectares of new farmland, attract agrobusiness investors, reduce post-harvest losses, and create sustainable jobs for youths and women.

“This is a strategic investment that will change the trajectory of Edo’s economy,” he said.

“We are laying the foundation for food sufficiency, commercial-scale farming, and long-term prosperity for our people.”

The Governor emphasized that the initiative marks a shift from subsistence farming to full mechanisation, ensuring Edo becomes a major contributor to Nigeria’s food reserves.
