Ododo to APC Groups: “I Won’t Buy Buses for Campaign…Don’t Lose Your Unit, Ward and Claim Victory Elsewhere

Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo of Kogi State has warned leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) against abandoning grassroots politics, declaring that his administration will not provide buses or funds for political groups seeking government-sponsored mobilization.
Speaking to party stakeholders and political appointees, the governor charged APC leaders to return to their wards and units to strengthen the party structure instead of relying on government resources for political activities.
Ododo said it would be unacceptable for party leaders to claim political strength in areas where they cannot even win their own polling units or wards.
“You cannot lose your unit and ward and come and claim that you won other wards,” the governor said. “Politics starts from the unit and ward level. If you cannot deliver your own base, then there is a problem.”
The governor stressed that government funds would not be used to purchase buses or sponsor groups traveling for political engagements, insisting that party leaders must take responsibility for mobilizing supporters at the grassroots.
According to him, genuine political leadership is measured by the ability to maintain influence within one’s immediate constituency, not by appearances at large gatherings funded by the government.
Ododo urged APC leaders across the state to reconnect with party members at the ward level, maintain close contact with voters, and build stronger grassroots networks ahead of future political contests.
He added that strengthening the party from the unit and ward levels would ensure a more credible and effective political structure across Kogi State.
The governor reiterated his commitment to prudent management of public resources, noting that government spending must prioritize development and the welfare of citizens rather than political logistics.
