Man 50-year Allegedly Arrested for Raping 8-Year-Old Girl in Delta

A 50-year-old man simply identified as Mr Kokoro Agbuna Sajere, has reportedly been arrested by the Delta State Police Command for alleged raping of 8-year-old girl.

Midwest Herald gathered that the suspect committed the offence last week in the Oghene road area in Amukpe area of Sapele in Sapele Local Government Area of the State.

The little girl identified as Hope was said to be staying with her guardian in the area.

As at press time, the police command was yet to confirm the incident.

But, a source who spoke to newsmen, said the suspect is a father of seven children and an active member of the local vigilante group in the locality.

The source, alleged that the suspect lured the young girl into his house when the area was quiet.

According to the source, it was during this time that he reportedly threatened her and committed the heinous act.

“Initially, Hope did not disclose the incident to her uncle. It was only when she started experiencing pain in her private parts that her uncle became suspicious that something was amiss.

“Upon being confronted, Mr Kokoro initially denied the allegations, but later confessed to the crime. The gravity of his actions quickly led to his arrest by the police, and he is currently being held in a cell, awaiting prosecution”, he said.

He added that the residents, who expressed concern over the incident, however, called for justice to be served on the suspect.

He also added that, Child rights advocates and organizations that condemned the act, also called for increased awareness and education on child protection.

“They emphasized the importance of protecting children from predators and ensuring their safety within the community.

“Many are hoping that the legal system will swiftly and decisively address this matter, setting an example that such acts would not be tolerated.

“As the case unfolds, the community eagerly awaits the legal proceedings and hopes that the justice system will provide solace to the young victim and her family.

“The incident serves as a reminder that the fight against child abuse and sexual violence must remain a top priority for society, demanding collective efforts to protect the most vulnerable among us”, he added.
