The Supreme Court has upheld the ruling of a Federal High Court barring the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Accountant-General of the Federation from disbursing statutory monthly allocations to Rivers State.

In a landmark decision on Friday, the apex court upheld the judgment, effectively restricting financial releases to the state amid an ongoing political fight between ex governor Nyesom Wike and his coronated successor, Governor Simi Fubara.

The Supreme Court also issued an order directing the Martins Amaewhule-led faction of the Rivers State House of Assembly, along with other elected members, to resume legislative activities.

Amaewhule and his faction are known to be loyal to Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and former governor of Rivers State.

The Supreme Court decision may have significant implications for governance in Rivers State and the fate of Governor Simi, as tensions continue to escalate between factions within the state’s political structure.
