Fight Against Cultism: Edo Youths Attack Police Over Incessant Arrest

Youths in Benin City, Edo State capital, today mobbed some police men who raided their community to arrest suspected “cultists.” The incident led to ‘free for all’ fight and some police men were seen in a video running to safety.

Others that were not so lucky were subjected to torture and forced to sit in flood water amidst punches. Some had their uniforms torn as well.

The police were forced to release those they have arrested and handcuffed their legs. The unmarked Sienna patrol vehicle was damaged and the valuables were looted by the mob.

The incident happened in Isiohor axis at Power line area, opposite Evidence of the Gospel Church.

Some business owners told Midwest Herald reporters that, the activities of police has turned Benin City to “ghost town in the name of fighting cultism.

“They have chased all the young people away from town, businesses are crumbling.”

In a similar vein, youths took to Lagos-Benin road at Ugbowo axis blocked the Federal Highway to register their anger over the high handed of the police in Benin City.

The state Police command is yet to react as at the time of this report.
