The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC, earlier today April 6, 2024, issued five new directives to electricity distribution companies following the recent tariff hike.

The directives were contained in a notice signed by the Deputy General Manager of Market Competition and Rates, Abba Terab.

On April 2, 2024, the NERC had approved a N225 per kilowatt-hour electricity tariff for Band A electricity consumers that enjoys at least 20 hours of power supply.

In a follow-up update, NERC mandated all discos to ensure that only the 480 newly approved Band A feeders are charged the new rate.

It further mandated the DisCos to post the schedule of approved Band A feeders affected by the rate review on their websites immediately.

NERC stressed that all DisCos should set up a portal on their website by April 10, 2024, allowing all customers to check their current bands by entering their meter or account numbers.

The Commission added that, all customers wrongly billed at the new rate should be refunded through energy tokens no later than Thursday, April 11, 2024, and file evidence of compliance with the Commission by April 12 2024.

The Commission reiterated that it will monitor compliance with the directives.
