Edo: APC Will Conduct Primaries To Select Candidates For November 2026 Local Government Council Election - Tenebe

The All Progressives Congress (APC), has dismissed a recent claim by a group that called itself, ‘Concerned Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State, as false assertion by a faceless group.

The so called group led by convener, Abdullahi Abubakar, asserted that the APC State Chairman, Emperor Jarret Tenebe has ceded automatic tickets for the upcoming 2026 Council elections to the party’s past candidates for the 2023 Local Government Council election that was won by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

The said Abubakar statement referred to Tenebe’s alleged statement that “the party will reward those who contested the 2023 chairmanship election under former Governor Godwin Obaseki’s with automatic ticket in the forthcoming local government polls.”

Reacting, the APC reaffirmed the superiority of party supremacy and the responsibility of the State Working Committee to screen aspirants and conduct primaries for members seeking to contest on the platform of APC.

“The attention of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State has been drawn to an unnecessary false assertion by a faceless group in Edo State, claiming that the APC State Chairman Emperor Jarret Tenebe ceded the party’s tickets for the upcoming Local Government Councils election to unnamed persons, during a courtesy visit by the coalition of APC former local government candidates to the party’s State Working Members.

“For clarification sake, no ticket has been ceded to anyone but in APC culture of rewarding members who stood by the party when we were in opposition, and ensured that APC remained relevant, the party will reward them for their heroic service.

“Going ahead, the party notes with concern the wrong understanding of our Constitution with regards to the conduct of primaries for the different elective offices, including in this case, the local government council election.

“It is the responsibility of the State Working Committee not leaders to Screen any intending aspirant and conduct primaries in line with the Electoral Guidelines to produce the candidates for the November 2026 Local Government Election.

“In line with these very fundamental party requirements, our members should discountenance the falsehood of Abdullahi Abubakar who our check revealed is a ghost member of APC.” The statement signed by Tenebe said.
