The feud between Mr. Godwin Obaseki and his deputy, Comrade Philip Shaibu, has deteriorated, despite the latter withdrawal of the suit stopping his alleged impeachment plan by Obaseki.

Like couples who had co-habited without love, the governor went ahead to evict Shaibu from the official building of do State deputy governors located in Dennis Osadebey Avenue Government House, Benin City.

The signal was sent earlier, when the Head of Service, Mr. Anthony Okungbowa in a memo, instructed the Permanent Secretary, Deputy Governor’s Office, to move the civil servants and their files to No 7, Dennis Osadebey Avenue, Benin City.

The new Deputy Governor’s office is about a 1000 meters outside the perimeter wall of Government House.

During the administration of Lucky Igbinedion, the property was the guests house of the Secretary to Edo State Government.

When Midwest Herald visited the place, civil servants were seen moving office equipment from the trunk of their cars.

Workers were also seen, clearing the unkempt compound of debris, amidst stagnant flood water on the driveways.

It will be recalled that Comrade Shaibu had, penultimate week, withdrew his suit filed at the Federal High Court, Abuja to stop perceived plots by Godwin Obaseki, to remove him from office.

Midwest Herald was told that, the pre-condition for return of peace to Edo Government House, was the demand for the withdrawal by Obaseki.

Sources quoted the state government to have insisted that the new deputy governor’s new office is within the confines of the area designated as the Government House.

The current crisis between Obaseki and Shaibu broke out when the deputy governor started consultation in his bid to contest for ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, in defiance to Obaseki’s instruction that succession talks should wait till November 2023. His deputy governor, however, has increased his public presence which seems to have unsettled Obaseki’s succession plan.
