Dr. Ernest Afolabi Umakhihe OON, a leading aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, for the September 21, 2024 governorship election in Edo State, today promised to lift the state into enviable status by transforming the fortunes to a new and better society based on the principle of shared prosperity among Edolites.

The highly acclaimed diligent former Permanent Secretary, served in several Federal Ministries, Departments and Agencies, including the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security is among the successful six aspirants that were screened by the Prof Julius Ihonvbere committee set up by the party as an internal mechanism to prune down the number of aspirants to a manageable size.

Addressing a mammoth crowd of supporters at the Benin Airport, who came to pay him solidarity while returning from Abuja, where he received his Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms from Edo Unity League who had purchased the forms for him, said he was in the governorship race to win and ensure shared prosperity for all Edo people.
Umakhihe, said, he was returning from Abuja, with the APC forms to contest for the Party’s primary election scheduled for February 17, 2024.
He reminded his supporters that is one of the six successful aspirants screened to contest the party’s primary.
The accounting and security expert reiterated that, his aspiration was borne on his desire to win battle for better schools, better jobs, and health care for all.
The governorship candidate hopeful, who promised “Fresh Hope Agenda”opined that he remain the best candidate and the first choice of the APC.
He said, he will bring his experience and connections with international development partners and local partners to develop the state if given the mandate to govern the state.
“My antecedent span various ministry such as national planning and budgeting, central administration and infrastructure because I was a permanent secretary in the ministry of work and Agriculture.
“In the course of this work, I have had extensive experienced and connections with international development partners and local partners.

“I was also secretary to National Economic Council (NEC) and in that position I have interfaced with the 36 state governors and Vice President, this further enriched my working of the Nigeria economy”, he said.
He added that, as a Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, he was able to attract a lots of projects to the three senatorial district.
He listed some the projects to include borehole, rural roads connecting farms to markets, skill acquisition centres, health facilities, school building and empowerment of farmers, especially women and youths.
