Delta APC: Ibori, Omo-Agege in Supremacy Battle for Control
By Reporter
Chief James Onanefe Ibori, former Delta Governor of Delta State and the immediate past Deputy Senate President, Obarisi Ovie Omo-Agege are reportedly at daggers drawn over the desire of both politicians to control the structure of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
The situation has further polarized the APC into more factions, with Ibori and Omo-Agege claiming leadership of the party.
Midwest Herald gathered that, the fight for the control of the party is exacerbated by the decamping of Ibori’s daughter Hon. Ehriatake Ibori-Suenu, a member of House of Representatives, representing Ethiope federal constituency.
She recently dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for APC.
Midwest Herald checks confirmed that Omo-Agege who was in Oghara to receive the younger Ibori into APC, is not however comfortable with her movement into the party.
Omo-Agege who recently engaged the APC leaders in Delta State in free fight, in his quest to control the party structures, may have suddenly realized the danger that comes with new entrants into the APC.
Although, the former Delta State Governor, is still a member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), unconfirmed reports argues that, Ibori maybe relying on his relationship with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to control the party, like what the FCT Minister Nyesom Wike is doing with Rivers State. This fear maybe responsible for the fight and the uneasiness between Omo-Agege and his political godfather—Ibori.
Omo-Agege is yet in another fight for leadership and control of APC, coming on the heels of a report by the Delta APC elders council led by Olorogun O’tega Emerhor that recommended a dual-leadership position for both the Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Olorogun Festus Keyamo, SAN and the former Senate President. With the latest skirmishes with Ibori, Omo-Agege may have lost out of the power game in Delta.
