Breaking: Appeal Court Reinstates Sacked Local Govt. Chairmen

By Reporter
The controversy surrounding Local Government administration and the frosty relationship between the third local and state government, has again received legal attention, as the Court of Appeal sitting in Akure, reinstated the elected local government chairmen and councillors sacked by the Osun in State Governor Ademola Adeleke.
The court in a judgment, ordered the immediate resumption of the council officials who were elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

It will be recalled that Mr. Adeleke had on assumption of office in November 2022, sacked the elected local government officials after a High Court decision had earlier upturned their election.
The Osun State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and other political parties had approached the High Court then to challenge the conduct of the council elections.
They argued and prayed the court to declare the election as a nullity because it was a one-sided election that had only the APC candidates as contestants.
But the Appeal Court disagreed and has upheld the appeal filed by the elected local government officials.
The Court unanimously reinstated all the elected Local Government Chairmen and Councilors who were wrongly sacked by Governor Ademola Adeleke, and ordered their immediate resumption of office.
Meanwhile, the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC), has filed an appeal against the Appeal Court judgement.
The government also, filed an application for stay of execution, pending hearing of the appeal.
