A former member of the House of Representatives, Ehiozuwa Johnson Agbonayinma, has announced his resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC), effective immediately.

Agbonayinma, who represented the Egor/Ikpoba-Okha Federal Constituency, made his decision known in a letter addressed to the chairman of APC Ikpoba-Okha Ward 6. The letter was later presented to journalists in Benin City, the capital of Edo State, on Wednesday.

He explained that his resignation followed a thorough assessment of recent happenings within the party, pointing to what he described as undemocratic practices. In particular, he accused certain individuals of interfering excessively in the affairs of the APC in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area.

Agbonayinma noted that as a founding member dating back to the days of AC, ACN, and ACD, he had worked to help build an inclusive democratic platform. He expressed disappointment that the party in his constituency was, in his view, increasingly being controlled by a few individuals who were influencing its political processes unfairly.

While he did not reveal his next political move, Agbonayinma confirmed his intention to contest in the 2027 elections, reaffirming his commitment to public service and democratic values.

Despite his exit, he emphasized that he still holds the APC and its members in high regard.
Addressing further questions, he also raised concerns about what he sees as an imbalance in federal appointments, claiming that Edo South Senatorial District has received fewer opportunities compared to Edo North.

Additionally, he expressed dissatisfaction over being perceived as politically irrelevant by some within the party.
