A Deadlier America

Late Kirk
By Michael Ovienmhada
Who killed Charlie Kirk? Who was Charlie Kirk? What did Charlie Kirk stand for?
It appears the killer is now known.
He is a 22-year old white male. His name is Tyler Robinson. His family members gave him up as soon as they recognized him from the published pictures of the possible killer. Charlie Kirk was a 31-year old White American male.
I did not know of him or anything he stood for or against, until his death propelled him to prominence last week. His killing will dominate the news for a few more days, and he will be forgotten. Life goes on.
What makes his killing seem important is that he was white and hé represented extreme views on the extreme right.
What makes that extreme right so important is the existence of the extreme left—those who believe in liberty to the extreme of unreasonableness—unlimited gay rights where children’s literature and films and almost every new movie that is released must carry a gay theme.
These extreme views are reflected in the way people vote for either the Republican Party or the Democratic Party candidates.
The extremities are now so deafening in their extremities to the point of family members not talking to each other anymore, husbands in rifts with their wives, children separated from parents and former friends, becoming enemies. Where we are right now is sad. Where do we point the fingers?
You may think you have the freedom to choose where to point your fingers.
Not anymore.
There’s nothing you say about Charlie Kirk that will not be interpreted one way or another. So, here’s a piece of advice. If you live in America and you have a car note to pay, a mortgage to keep, and a family to feed, shut up.
This is no time to exercise your First Amendment rights. Shut up and go off to your job.
On the left side, culture is being redefined, and truth has a new meaning.
Ask Netflix.
There is hardly any movie you watch on Netflix these days that does not carry a gay theme. This is how the left is doing their thing. What are the options we have for those of us who are neither left nor right?
I would say—very little, and just as the Right punishes you for speaking, the Left does even worse. Major news networks like CNN cannot tolerate any views that tend towards anti-gay rhetoric. You will lose your job.
In all of the rhetoric from both the Right, and the Left in the aftermath of Charlie’s killing, none has projected as much reasonableness as that from Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez otherwise known as AOC. Hear what she’s had to say below:
“I don’t think a single person who has dedicated their entire career to preventing gun safety legislation from getting passed in this house has any right to blame anybody else but themselves for what is happening.”
She must have some really smart people working for her right now.
This qualifies as a presidential statement. She’s getting ready.
HYDRA HEADED HAMAS
Netanyahu is as hawkish as they come. For Bibi, what you see is what you get. By age 28, he had fought in 5 wars. His older brother, Lt. Col Yonatan Netanyahu led the Israeli rescue team that raided Entebbe to release 102 Israeli passengers at the legendary Raid at Entebbe in 1976. For perspective, this is what happened:
Just after takeoff, on 27, June 1976, Airfrance flight 139 was hijacked by two Palestinians from the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine – External Operations (PFLP-EO), Jayel al-Arja and Fayez Abdul-Rahim al Jaber, and two Germans, Wilfried Böse and Brigitte Kuhlmann, from the German Revolutionary cells.
Bibi’s hero older brother, Yonatan was killed as he led everyone else to safety.
So, when you hear Netanyahu speak, he speaks from the heart. For him, there is no middle ground. With a man like this, for as long as he is a factor in Israel, there will be no sleep for Hamas.
He will hunt them down to the ends of the earth. It was little surprise therefore that he sent a squad to take out some Hamas leaders in Qatar last week. There is nothing that Qatar can do about it. In that region, the people know who the Lion King is.
He roars. He bares his fangs. Everyone else bows.
THE NEED TO FIX FEDERAL ROADS AND PERMUTATIONS FOR 2027.
There is a Chinese proverb that goes thus: “If you want to be rich, first build roads.”
Nothing could be truer even now more so than in ancient communities when most people lived off the land, and they needed very few things from other communities for their daily survival needs.
Roads are an imperative for modern society, and for any country that truly wants to make progress. There is no doubt that bad roads have been responsible for thousands of deaths over the years, the high cost of goods, the short lifespan of vehicles and the heightened state of insecurity in the country.
Roads open up communities to be able to evacuate produce after harvest. The vehicles that come to pickup produce bring products from other climes to satisfy local needs.
Clearly, as far as modern society goes, no community “can be an island,” to borrow a phrase from John Donne the Poet. In fact, his poem speaks to inter-connectivity of the human race. He says “if a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less for it——the death of any man diminishes me—-“
In other words, what affects anyone anywhere affects everyone everywhere.
In Colonial times, a Public Works Department, (PWD) was established to ensure that any infrastructure that was built was equally given a high level of attention to keep it in top shape for the long term.
It’s successor agency, the Federal Emergency Roads Agency, (FERMA), has been nothing more than a bloated bureaucracy employing over 1,700 people at headquarters, running with high recurrent expenditure and few or no vehicles or equipment for road inspection and care.
It is recognized that there are major impediments to improving the state of the roads in Nigeria. These include, but are not limited to Federal Government policy that precludes State governments from working on Federal roads;
Slow refunds of monies back to States who have obtained permission from the Federal Government to work on Federal roads;
Propensity to depend on imported coal tar for roads in Nigeria whereas the country has ample deposits;
And finally, and always the biggest elephant in the room, the preponderance of corruption in the polity.
Many government officials see appointment to serve as appointments to serve their own pockets.
For as long as there appears to be no punishment for those who have stolen public funds meant for the repairs of roads in the past, the future may be bleak in any hope to have good roads for tomorrow.
Finally, the Federal Government may need to evolve a new policy to ensure that roads are built and maintained by creating a highway fund as has been done in several developed countries.
One such example is the Federal Aid Highway Act of 1956 instituted by the Eisenhower administration.
It created a highway fund which aggregates 18 cents per gallon of every petrol purchased and 24 cents per gallon of diesel purchases to the construction of roads in the country.
To this end, the proposed 5% tax on petrol and diesel by the Federal Government to be effective in 2026 may be a step in the right direction.
The question which remains to be answered is this: Will the funds be directed towards road construction or will it go into the general revenue pool to be misappropriated?
“The answer” according to Bob Dylan “may be blowing in the wind.”
Former President Goodluck Jonathan has been in the news lately. There are speculations about him running in 2027.
When he had the chance to reshape the country, he squandered it to the point where a hitherto extremist, not quite educated nor enlightened Buhari became an option. What one must wonder about speculations about Jonathan running is —-what did he forget to do that he wants to come and do in 2027? I am no betting man, but in this case, I would like to place my bet on leaving this news in the realm of speculation. His candidacy is not viable.
As for the ADC, if we imagine it as a car, it would be like a car with punctured tyres. How will it move when the three top men in the party are in their 80s? It is yet to be seen, what message they plan on selling to the people.
