Former All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman and one-time Governor of Edo State, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, has formally joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC)—opposition coalition.
Oyegun, who led the APC from July 2013 to July 2018 and played a pivotal role in the party’s 2015 victory, is an elder statesman with national appeal.
His move to the ADC is widely interpreted as a response to ongoing internal discord within the APC.
Midwest Herald can authoritatively report that Prof. Oserheimen Osunbor, ex-Governor of Edo State and former senator, Edo Central also defected today to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition.
The law professor confirmed his defection to the coalition to Midwest Herald today. According to him, he would rather go to where he will be respected.
Both Chief Oyegun and Prof Osunbor were at the ADC official launch in Abuja today.
Prof. Osunbor represented Edo Central as senator from 1999 to 2007, and briefly served as Edo State governor between 2007 and 2008 before an election tribunal nullified his victory and returned Comrade Adams Oshiomhole as the validly elected governor on November 11, 2008.
According to privilege sources, Oyegun, alongside Atiku Abubakar and Aminu Tambuwal, pushed the coalition to adopt ADC platform, after the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) refused the registration of All Democratic Alliance (ADA).
