President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared that Nigeria has successfully navigated the difficult period of economic reforms and is now entering what he described as an “age of prosperity.”

Tinubu made the declaration on Thursday in his nationwide broadcast to commemorate Nigeria’s 66th

Independence Anniversary, urging Nigerians not to look back to policies he said had created economic distortions and instability.

The President said his administration’s reforms had “corrected the course” of the Nigerian economy, stressing that the country had passed through its own “Red Sea” and must now move forward with renewed confidence.

According to Tinubu, the painful reforms undertaken since 2023 were necessary to place Nigeria on a sustainable economic footing, while the current phase would focus on translating economic stability into jobs, investment, increased production and improved living standards.

He cautioned against returning to what he described as unsustainable policies of the past, saying doing so could reverse the gains already achieved.

The President also highlighted the administration’s efforts in agriculture, manufacturing, energy, infrastructure, mining, transportation and technology, saying these sectors were increasingly contributing to Nigeria’s economic recovery.

Tinubu said the government’s focus was now shifting from stabilisation to greater production and shared prosperity, with particular attention to opportunities for young Nigerians.

He acknowledged that many citizens had endured hardship during the reform period but maintained that the sacrifices were necessary to secure Nigeria’s economic future.

The President also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to tackling terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and other security challenges, while commending the armed forces and other security agencies for their sacrifices.

On national unity, Tinubu urged Nigerians to reject division, cynicism and despair, and to embrace unity, faith and confidence in the Nigerian project.

The 66th Independence anniversary is being marked under the broader government message of moving “From Reforms to Stability” and consolidating the gains of the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Tinubu’s central message: Nigeria, he said, has endured the hardest phase of the reforms and must now concentrate on turning economic stability into prosperity that Nigerians can feel in their daily lives.
