Edo Queens Football Club have emerged champions of the 2026 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership Super Six after battling defending champions Bayelsa Queens to a goalless draw in their decisive Matchday 5 encounter on Sunday.

The title-deciding clash, played at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, lived up to expectations as both sides displayed determination and tactical discipline.

Edo Queens, however, showed remarkable resilience and composure to secure the point they needed to seal the championship.

The result confirmed the Benin City-based side as the top-performing team in the Super Six playoffs, capping an impressive campaign characterized by teamwork, perseverance, and consistency under head coach Moses Aduku.

The triumph marks another significant achievement for Aduku, who has now won his second NWFL title in three years with Edo Queens and his third league championship overall.

Tenebe, Bendel Insurance/Edo Queens chairman

Reacting to the historic feat, Chairman of Bendel Insurance Football Club and Edo Queens, Jarrett Tenebe, congratulated Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo for his unwavering support of the team.

“We have won the cup. Congratulations to His Excellency, Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State. All the support you gave us has paid off,” Tenebe said.

He also commended the players and technical crew for their exceptional performance throughout the competition, describing the title victory as a reward for hard work, discipline, and self-belief.

According to Tenebe, the team’s ability to recover from an opening defeat to Nasarawa Amazons demonstrated the true character, resilience, and fighting spirit that define Edo Queens.

After suffering an early setback, Edo Queens bounced back strongly, recording impressive victories over FC Robo Queens (4-1) and Abia Angels (6-2).

The crucial draw against Bayelsa Queens lifted them to the top of the standings with 10 points and secured the league crown.

Elsewhere in Port Harcourt, Nasarawa Amazons and hosts Rivers Angels settled for a goalless draw at the Mini Stadium, while Abia Angels and FC Robo Queens shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw.

As newly crowned NWFL champions, Edo Queens will now represent Nigeria at this year’s WAFU B qualifiers, where they will compete for a place in the CAF Women’s Champions League.

The achievement adds to the growing successes recorded under Tenebe’s leadership.

It will be recalled that the Bendel Insurance Football Club rose from 12th position in the Nigeria Premier Football League to finish fourth, earning qualification for continental competition.
